Christian Eriksen’s rapid rise at Manchester Joined has not surprised former Red Demons midfielder, Michael Carrick.

After spending the latter half of the past season with Brentford, he joined the club on a free pre-season transfer.

The decision to sign Eriksen was initially unclear, given the importance of Bruno Fernandes, yet Erik Ten Hag’s failure to sign Frenkie de Jong chose for him.

Eriksen likes to play further than Fernandes, and their creative partnership has helped Joined in midfield.

During Joined’s great 3-1 win over Arsenal, his passes to Fernandes were crucial in building two of their goals.

In the league this season, Joined players have played north of 190 minutes.

Eriksen has averaged more passes (50.4), fruitful passes ending in the final third (11.2), and passes into the case (5.6) each hour and a half than anyone else, showing how rapidly he has influenced their style of play. “I’m not surprised one piece,” Carrick told the official Joined site.

“I played against him a great deal; I’ve watched him a ton. I like him a great deal. He’s a fantastic footballer. He’s astute; he’s smart.

“It almost doesn’t matter what position he plays; he can adapt. He’s simply a cunning, intelligent footballer with great quality.

“I was pleased when we marked him, and he’s not surprised me one piece. He’s a top player.”

Eriksen continued his great form – which earned him the Assembled Player of the Month award for September – into the international window, impressing Denmark all through their two games.

He hit a stunning long-range effort against Croatia before laying on eight chances against France in Sunday’s 2-0 win for team-mates.

The only time Eriksen has kept more key passes in a single club match is two times (nine the twice) since joining Tottenham from Ajax in 2013.
